What to expect with Healthcare Reform

As of October 1st all individuals that do not have health insurance coverage will be required to make application for a qualified healthcare plan by March 31st 2014. This marks the end of the open enrollment period for 2014. The last effective date of coverage before penalties are assessed however will be March 1st 2014. If you do not have coverage in place by March 1st you are subject to a fine from the federal government of $95 or 1% of income whichever is greater. This fine will increase in the coming years.

There are going to be many options Inside and Outside the Healthcare Exchange for individuals and families. These qualified health plans are compliant and meet the standards set by the Affordable Care Act (A.C.A). There are subsidies and tax credits available (if you qualify) to help with premium costs. However if your employers offers you healthcare coverage and you have opted out of that coverage you do not qualify for any subsidy and are subject to the fine.
